Hi everybody,

I am new to the forum. I have a Yamaha DTX562 and I bought the xD3 module because of its simplicity and great sounds. I made a lot of research about compatibility as I knew Yamaha is tricky with this, and so far I found nothing officially and unofficially that it should be. Also the older brother xD5 is compatible, so I figured out that xD3 would be as well. So far, it is not, 3 zone snare is capped at 2, same with cymbals, no closed hi hat and bad triggering in general. Can someone help me here? is there a way I could make the module recognize the pads as I have seen the xD5 can?

Many thanks

Hi Lucas and welcome to the forum!

I also have seen that the Yamaha DTX562 is compatible with the ATV aD5, so I would expect just like you that the xD3 should also work since the input types should be the same.
Maybe a dumb questions, but did you select the correct pad types for every pad in your module?

This is the list that is used for the ATV aD5 with the DTX562:

Trigger - Pad model
KICK - KP65
SNARE - XP80
TOM - XP70 x3
HI-HAT - RHH135
CRASH - PCY135
RIDE - PCY135

Hi LucasP,

I did some research and spoke with one of my contacts and it seems that the xD3 and aD5 modules do not have the same hardware/software compatibility with 3rd party manufacturer pads. The aD5 was designed with this compatibility in mind, but the xD3 was designed as a module of the EXS and aDrums artist pads.
The xD3 does seem to work well with Roland pads, but the xD3 does not have trigger profiles for Roland or other 3rd party pads.
Also, officially the xD3 module is not supposed to be sold as a separate module because it was not designed for 3rd party compatibility. Or buy it separately and use it for Roland or ATV pads.

Also the compatibility between Yamaha and aD5 is also not perfect.
ATV has a patch for 3-zone triggering on one TRS-cable for the ride cymbal, but this does not work for the snare, so the snare is limited to 2-zones (head/rim-shot). Yamaha trigger pad profiles must be loaded which are available on the ATV site.
The RHH135 hihat in combination with the aD5 is compatible but not perfect. The RHH135 works with 5 positions between open and closed and the aD5 and xD3 use CC messages with a range from 0 - 127. So there is a difference in the used system which would result in differences in performance.

The best thing you could do is return the xD3 and swap it for and aD5, or upgrade your pads to Roland pads, which seem to be working much better.

Hi,

Thank you so much for looking into this and apologies for my late reply. Unfortunately, it was too late for sending it back, I just wished there was information about this somewhere as there only seems to be information about the aD5, and any other out there is either not clear or not real. Even in shops I called to they told me there should be no problem, and I got sold the module (from Drumtec) separately and after having asked this especifically.
I will see what I can do, I might just go for a 2box with full compatibility, or look at other options.
